We are pleased to announce that we are extending our popular Summer Clinic and Lecture Series. Reservations for Riding Clinics may be made online (see Booking Calendar below). The Lecture and Ground Clinic schedule will be announced soon on our Facebook page.
Beginner Riding Clinics are open to all. Intermediate and Advanced Clinics are open to current students. New students must acquire instructor approval in advance of the clinic by either scheduling an evaluation or a one-time private lesson.

Beginner Clinics

Introduction to Western Riding

English Equestrian Experience

Ages: 12 through Adult
For teens and adults interested in gaining a hands-on experience with grooming, tacking, and riding—this introductory course will incorporate instruction on ground care, horsemanship, a half-hour riding lesson and half-hour trail ride through Rock Creek Park. Perfect for those interested in learning to ride and would like an across-the-board experience!
Intermediate Clinics
Current Students Only. Experience Needed: Riders have significant amount of experience at the walk, trot and canter. Must be able to identify posting diagonals and correct leads and control their horse through all three gaits and transitions.
Cantering

Required Age: 12 through Adult
Clinic will include lead identification, balance, equitation patterns, transitional and lateral
work, with supplementary dressage instruction. This course is designed for riders who are learning to canter and are looking to refine their current strengths and abilities.
Introduction to Vaulting
Wednesday, August 8, 6:00-8:00pm

Ages: 14 through Adult
Often called "gymnastics on horseback," vaulting holds a unique niche in the equestrian world. Vaulters ride bareback with a special handled surcingle and perform various movements such as kneeling and standing while the horse is being lunged. Students will learn background on the spot and have the opportunity to try several movements, as well as taking a turn at lunging the horse.
Jumping Lines: Related Distances

As everyone knows, one good jump does not guarantee another good jump. This clinic will teach you how to ride two jumps in either a straight or broken line and make your distances work to the second jump as well as the first. When to add and when to leave out a stride? After this clinic you'll know exactly what to do!
Introduction to Dressage

Learn the fundamentals of what all great horse people know: there is no good riding without solid flatwork. In this clinic you will explore the basic theories behind dressage, one of the oldest and most revered of equestrian disciplines. Whether you showjump, event, rope, or just need a refresher, this clinic will provide the structure to support future movements.
Advanced Flatwork

There is so much more to riding than just walking, trotting, and cantering around a ring. This clinic will introduce more advance flatwork theory and movements, including lateral movements and collection and extension. These exercises can be used in all riding disciplines, and will help develop your horse's responsiveness and ridability, as well as your ability to affect your horse's way of going.
Advanced Clinics
Current students only. Riders must have significant amount of experience at the walk, trot, canter and jump. Must be able to identify posting diagonals and correct leads. Should have experience with complex courses and patterns.
Go For Gold: Equitation Medals

After the Olympics, the next most competitive type of hunter/jumper riding is equitation medals. Learn from Shauna A., a former Medal/Maclay competitor, on what it takes to win in the most difficult amateur division on the circuit. Find out how much more is included in equitation besides mere position; get advice on what choices can be made to produce flawless rounds!
Show Jumping

Ready to test your jumping against the clock? This clinic will explain the intricacies of show jumping and its rules and formats. Gallop your way around tight turns and tough courses while keeping the rails high and time low! Learn the basics of what our two-time gold medal winning Olympic team is going after in London!
Hunter Derbies

The newest addition to hunter shows, derbies are a real test of your horse's skill as well as your riding ability and acumen. You will learn how to make decisions on course to achieve a smooth, safe round through a difficult and challenging course. Your skill as a horseperson will be tested as well as your ability to produce consistent jumping. Get ready to ride tight turns, open and close gates, and many other tasks!
Dressage for Jumping

If jumping is just flatwork interrupted by obstacles, here is your chance to perfect the moves between the fences! Learn how to use leg-yields and counter-bending to straighten a horse before and after a jump. Perfect your ability to collect and extend your strides to help do away with those pesky chips and long spots. This clinic will help you get the solid flatwork that will give you a leg up to better jumps.
Jumping Gymnastics

Age: Ages 14 through Adult
Description: Riders will work on equitation and balance while navigating their horse through a gymnastics course. The clinic will focus on proper jumping position, crest release, balance, striding, and consistency. Best for riders and horses interested in improving their horse's confidence over fences and for riders that would like to focus on their equitation over fences, particularly their lower leg and release.
