Rock Creek Park Horse Center summer camps offer students from ages four and up an active and healthy place to learn and improve their horsemanship skills while having fun. Students learn in a safe, relaxed atmosphere through demonstrations, hands-on barn activities, and riding lessons. Campers are instructed from the first day on safety skills around a horse. They also learn about the care of horses through games and craft projects.

We welcome riders at all levels, from beginner to more advanced. Some campers attend one session while others attend multiple sessions. All campers are evaluated on their riding skills on the first day of each session in order to be placed into an appropriate level group. Our evaluation of a camper's riding level at the end of camp will be kept on file for reference should a student seek placement in one of our group lessons, a benefit valued at $50 if requested outside the camp venue.

Eventing Camp 1

This introductory camp, geared towards intermediate/advanced riders, breaks down the principals of each division and explores the culture of the sport. (This is a four day, Monday-Thursday camp, due to the Fourth of July holiday.)

Eventing Camp 2
Building on the skills gained from Eventing Camp 1, Eventing Camp 2 focuses on preparation for a "Super Chicken" event, a light-hearted variation on One-Day Eventing. In order to register for Eventing Camp 2, riders must attend Eventing Camp 1, or obtain special permission through the Programs Manager by demonstrating appropriate skill level and knowledge of eventing.

Gymkhana Camp

Among the games that might be played are barrel racing, pole bending, key hole, and ride & tie. For intermediate level riders and up, campers will enhance their skills in horse and rider balance, advanced bending, getting cleaner transitions and improved gaits, increasing responsiveness to leg, hand, and seat aids, and enhancing their positions.
